A unifying aspect of the paintings that make up Minna’s third exhibition at Gallery 286 is a balance of colour and the way a particular range of colours interact. Her work often draws our attention to the act of painting and increasingly to the staging of the relationship between the painter and subject. This is made explicit in the studies from the life class of both model and painters at Heatherley’s School of Art where Minna teaches. We are aware of the painter in her nude studies, still lives and portraits. Past work has stressed something fleeting and usually peripheral but now there is a sense of duration and a persistent scrutiny of the ever-changing light.
