WATERCOLOURS by RAOUL COOMBES

Raoul Coombes has painted for most of his life. Initially working in oils and acrylics, over the past several years he has painted mainly in watercolour. He last exhibited at Gallery 286 in 1999; this is the first exhibition of his watercolours.

Raoul is a doctor and cancer researcher; over the past 25 years much of his research has been funded by Cancer Research UK which is the reason why a proportion of the sales of the exhibition will go to supporting this charity.

RECENT WORKS by JANE MORGAN

Jane Morgan is studying for an MA in Fine Art Painting at City & Guilds Art School, following a Sculpture degree (1st Class) in 2010 where she won the 2010 Prize for Sculpture, the Beckwith Scholarship and the Tussauds Project Fund Award.

Jane is a process painter; she is fascinated by the transformative possibilities of oil paint, spirits and linseed as they interact with each other on the canvas.

By radically re-interpreting historic portraits, she invites the viewer to look at these works with fresh eyes as well as reminding us of the lost world they represent – both its triumphs and limitations for the women sitters. This makes Jane both an iconoclast and admirer of the tradition of Western Portraiture and a wry commentator on the role of women in past centuries.
