St. Lucy St. Lucy, a dedicated virgin, is believed to have torn out her eyes to discourage an admirer. They were miraculously restored. Her feast day falls on the shortest day of the year she was looked upon as the bringer of light. She is patron saint of the blind. In Sweden and Norway, her feast day is marked by the eldest girl of the household dressing in white and donning a crown of lights. The boys of the household also dress in white, and holding wands they form a procession through the house.
