TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF HIRE

Gallery 286 is located in a private house and runs its own exhibition programme. It can be hired from time to time by negotiation with Jonathan Ross. Viewing is usually by appointment but, during hire periods, opening hours can be between 10am - 7pm. Artists are responsible for doing their own invigilation.

2 Private Views may be held during any one week of hire and these would usually be from 6.30 - 8.30pm (leave by 9pm).

Artists wishing to hire the gallery should submit a portfolio of their work for consideration, either in the form of emailed jpegs, a link to their website, or by mailing a Mac-compatible CD. (Please send a SAE if you wish the CD to be returned).

The standard rental is for one week inclusive of setting up and dismantling the exhibition. Longer rentals are negotiable for periods up to 2 weeks. Please email jross@gallery286.com or telephone 020 7370 2239 to discuss prices.

The gallery can be hired for events when an existing exhibition is taking place. In this case the minimum hire fee is £500 for a one-day event, payable in advance by cheque, Paypal or bank transfer, or in cash on the day.

Gallery 286 comprises 2 exhibition spaces  joined by a staircase. The Red Gallery on the ground floor has a picture hanging system which requires D-rings at the top corners of works to be displayed there. The tops of the D-rings should be 1.5" from the top edge of the work.  In the White Gallery and the Basement Corridor, all sorts of suitable picture hooks, nails and screws can be used. (Jonathan Ross will assist with hanging exhibitions and can supply the necessary fixings).

A variety of plinths are available for the display of sculptures etc. A trestle table and black cloth are also available.

The garden may be used for Private Views during Summer months.

Plans of the gallery spaces can be found at

Bar and cloakroom staff can be provided for Private Views. at £40 each per evening, payable in cash. A coat rail and hangers are provided.

We recommend Majestic Wine Warehouses  at 166 Campden Hill Road, London W8 7AS, Tel: 020 7792 9902, for the supply of drinks and glasses. www.majestic.co.uk

We suggest providing 12 bottles red wine, 12 bottles white wine, mineral water, orange juice or other soft drinks per PV, and hiring 144 wineglasses. There is a £1 per glass deposit required for glasses. If you are thinking of providing more drink than this we suggest you negotiate a sale or return arrangement with Majestic. Glasses need to be washed and returned to Majestic after the event. We will do this for a fee of £25.

286 does not have a drinks license so no charge can be made for drinks provided at PVs

We do not have a Performing Rights licence either so no music, other than that composed or performed by the exhibiting artist, can be played during exhibitions.

If catering is required we can make suggestions.
